BIO : Karen Zalamea
Karen Zalamea. Edinburgh College of ArtBorn in Vancouver, British Columbia. Bachelor in Fine Arts at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (Canada) and the Edinburgh College of Art (Scotland). Currently completing her Master of Fine Art in photography at Concordia University in Montreal (Quebec).
Her artistic practice focuses on the performed construction of photography and video via self-imposed exercises that explore notions of the mechanized body and the theatricalized discipline. Of particular interest are repetitive bodily gestures demanded by mundane tasks, in dialogue with the economy of labour practices associated with domesticity and women's work. She has exhibited in Canada, the United States, England, and Holland.
