Belgium is known for “Belgian” fries. There is a new trend since the new Millenium, those fries-stands are taken over by Chinese immigrants. With Flemish interviews as vocal background, three Asian tourists are eating a fries in an 100 second performance.
La Belgique est reconnue pour la qualité de ses frites. Depuis le nouveau millénaire, les baraques à frites sont reprises par des immigrants chinois. Sur un fond sonore d’entrevues en flamand, trois touristes asiatiques mangent un paquet de frites belges en 100 secondes.
byol-nathalie kimura-lemoine is a multimedia artist and curator, born in korea (south), educated in belgium, and immigrated to canada. lemoine’s visual work has been exhibited in solo and group shows (seoul, tokyo, kyoto, hong-kong, taipei, berlin, brussels, lille, grenoble, montreal, vancouver, los angeles, new york). her poems, essay and writings have been published in belgium, u.s.a,, south korea and japan. her videos were screened in belgium, canada, england, france, germany, korea, japan, hong-kong, tunisia and the u.s.a. byol-nathalie kimura-lemoine works on issues surrounding identity: diaspora, ethnicity and gender. she likes to play with words. she doesn’t like capital letters.
