A single-channel video produced in collaboration with Brian Karl, depicting contemporary scenes from Germany overlaid and penetrated by memories of the world war.
Tirtza Even was born in Jerusalem. She has been a practicing video artist and documentary maker for over fifteen years. Her work has appeared at the Museum of Modern Art, NY, at the Whitney Biennial, the Johannesburg Biennial, as well as in many other festivals, galleries and museums in the United States, Israel and Europe, and has been purchased for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Jewish Museum (NY), the Israel Museum (Jerusalem), among others. Currently an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Brian Karl has worked as curator and arts administrator at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, the Kitchen, Harvestworks Media Arts, and Headlands Center for the Arts, and also consulted as curator, technician and/or guest speaker at Art-in-General, California College of Art, Creative Time, Composers Forum, Kadist Foundation, San Francisco Art Institute, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Mabou Mines, Squat and Wooster Group theater companies, along with serving as editor for Tellus, the Audio Art Magazine.
He received a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at Columbia University after conducting research in Morocco, Spain and the U.S. He has taught widely in cultural anthropology and music, while producing a series of experimental video documentaries, several of which have received awards, and have been screened, exhibited, and purchased for collections and/or commissioned by galleries and museums internationally.
